    Default Convince me...

Well, back in December I went to my local dealer to change my (t)rusty mk4 Astra for a 1.8SRi Vectra. I looked at a couple of pre-facelift cars sitting on the forecourt for £9995, but drove home a few days later in a Mk5 Astra 1.9CDTi-150 Design that cost me £10500.

Today, that Mk5 is remapped to 200hp, VXR 322mm brakes, and Bilstein B12 35mm lowering/damper kit.

It's pulling 44mpg, it'll do over 140mph, and it'll outdrag a VXR off the lights.

But, I really am not at all happy with the car. There's nothing particularly wrong about it, I just don't particularly want to go drive it. I got to work, I come home, I park it. I don't even wash it.

I do a 25 mile commute, about 5 miles stop-start, 20 up free moving motorway. 50 miles a day, plus whatever other mileage I do basically means I'm doing about 24k a year.

So, I'm thinking of changing the Astra, and I'm kinda tired of diesel - currently the Astra is worth pretty much what I owe on it, so I'm looking to change it for a 2007 Vectra 1.8VVT SRi Nav.

    Am I mad?

Well, I want something reasonably economical, and I don't want a diesel this time.

Is the 2.2Direct that much better considering it's only 10hp up on the VVT?

imho with both the 1.8 and 2.2 you would prob not be too happy after a few month's...i might be wrong but as your motor is tuned i too think you will miss the torque and power you are going to loose

My dad has a Mk5 astra design although his has got the 1.6 turbo and I totally understand what your saying about the astra, although having the power is nice, when I took his out I much preffered the veccy. The astra just seemed a bit boring IMO.

not saying there is anything wrong with either vectra engine, but what about a 2.0 turbo and the softly softly driving style

This is it - I lowered it, I chipped it, and I still don't want to drive it.

I see the dealer has a SRi XPII 1.9 in black, but it's quite a bit more than I want to spend...

OK, another question - is the swirl flap issue fixed on 2007 Vectras? My Astra is suffering a little with it despite having only 39k on the clock...
