Need to get it drained out (fair amount went it there). A for the damage, I doubt anyone could say for sure unless they saw it. I'd call out a reputable mechanic.

    Vehicle : SRi

    Engine : Z22SE (2.2 Petrol)

    Year : 2004

    Mileage : 137000

    Default

Piston top land broken (intake side) - Bad engine running especially after cold start and cold drive ability - Knocking noise (sometimes failure code P030X is set) - Molten catalytic converter as a consequential damage - Increased oil level (oil dilution)

Also check the filler neck mate at the nozzle on diesel is wider so could damage your petrol neck.

I thought they had an "anti syphon" neck, so you will not be able to suck it out ( to stop it from being stolen). You might have to drop the tank to empty it?..

Awh I feel for u mate. I did the same in 1980 with a TR7. Easily done. Luckily I hadnt started the engine. Had 2 join the RAC on the spot, they towed it away an cleansed the tank. Good luck, hope not 2 much damage.

Thought you couldn't get a diesel nozzle into a petrol car unless you forced it in?

It is very easily done, I put £8 of unleaded into the other-halfs 1.9cdti before realising....Lucky for me I filled it up with diesel to thin it out...possibly cleaned some gum off the cylinder walls, but it has been fine for the last 15,000 miles since it happened...
although on recollection, I think we had a few jittery problems when pulling away at first...'til the unleaded had all been diluted or flushed away by the diesel...
