    Vehicle : Opel Signum

    Trim : Sport

    Engine : 3.0 CDTI

    Year : 12/03

    Default 3.0 Signum

I can't find the other thread I opened about the 3.0CDTi *is embarassed*.

After the nice, but rather sluggish, Vectra C 2.0DTi we've bought a 2004 Signum 2.2DTi auto.
    What a big, big mistake.
First, the car wouldn't start properly when cold - replaced the fuel return pipes. Still wouldn't start nicely. Proved to be the battery.

Second, the gearbox started to go into spanner mode (2nd and top gear) and now it changes gears terribly. - reported under warranty; dealer says they don't know how to fix >_>

The newest problem is poor starting form cold and sluggish engine. Smokes more than usual and goes into limp mode (2750rpm max).

But, the Siggy is so much more refined and comfortable than the Vectra . That's why we're thinking of selling this one back to the dealer for another one.
Been looking at 3.0's more than 1.9's, because fuel economy is not really an issure. The V6 has a marvellous sound and a face-bending acceleration. Makes you grin like an idiot .
So...should I go for the 3.0 or the 1.9, since I heard from many 9-5 and Renault VelSatis + Espace owners that the 3.0 is not reliable at all. Seems there's a common issue with the cylinder liners...???!?

    Best regards

In the Saab there is an issue with the rear cylinders due to the shape of the bodywork not allowing sufficient cooling. The rear liners were dropping but the Veccy/Signum does not suffer the same problem
My son has just bought my 3.0 V6 CDTi Vectra off me and it's a truly cracking engine I don't know of any on here that have had issues
They will do around 40mpg on a run and over 30 around town.
The Euro 4 facelift's are not tunable AT ALL due to the fuel pump not taking too kindly to the extra workload (although some have remapped theirs)
The Pre-facelift's seem to cope ok and are good for around 220+ bhp with a tuning box or a remap.

    220+bhp sounds great. I'm looking at pre-facelift 177bhp models

About the rear cylinders...I had some photos of a wrecked 3.0V6CDTi, so I'm still not 100% sure about it having sufficent cooling.

    P.S.: 1gal in l ?

No cooling issuse in the vx due to the fact they fitted a decent rad, unlike the renualts and saabs. The engines in those were shoe horned in!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Cracking engine. I've had no problems with mine (apart from self inflicted ones due to tuning boxes ).

I found the pics of a wrecked Y30DT motor.

And I still don't care much...
