    Default more induction kit questions....

had a guy at work looking for an induction kit and i sold him a k&n apollo, which i'm fitting for him sunday.

he's got a 57 plate astra 1.4 sxi, and i told him the apollo comes with a hose that sucks in the cold air - but it's the standard 57i kit that has that - the apollo just sits there lol

although i read that the apollo is the best as it draws in cold air, but how can it be if there is no direct feed?

or am i just being an idiot........

Halfords also sell flexi induction pipe for about a £5 TAM. That will do the trick till you get silicone.

If it's an apollo then it'll be the enclosed filter... attach a cold air feed (flexible ducting etc of the same diameter) and away you go.

The apollo is basically the same as the pipercross viper, you can use them with or without the air feed.
don't use the air feed unless you can get a good flow of air into it.

would it decrease the performance of it if you didn't use one?

i haven't fully read up on it's advantages over a standard 57i kit

    it shouldn't do really...

the theory behind them being enclosed is that it keep hot air out (as we all know, engines prefer cold air), so provided there wasn't a heat source in front of the air inlet of the filter you'll be alright.

with an air feed in place and connected up to the filter, then you would be getting nothing but cold air forced into the filter - but you do need a good spot for the air feed...

for example, an old mate of mine had a viper on his saxo with a quad head light conversion, he removed one of the lights and put the air feed there instead - looked really tidy, but also forced as much cold air into the filter as possible.
