It's not really a good idea to have an open cone filter on the 3.2 as it's a big engine and generates a good bit of heat so will be prone to heat soak and although it will sounf better you'll most probably be down on power.
If your going to down the cone route a sealed Induction kit is the best way to go if you want gains aswell as a nice throaty induction roar.
When I had my GSI I fitted the Pipercross Viper sealed kit it's expensive but works a treat and sounds the dogs.
I've got an open cone on mine and it's way better than the performance panel filter/modded box... know what ya saying about heatsoak..but once ya moving theres enough cool air getting into engine bay.
Hope you dont get stuck in a traffic jam on motorway, all that hot air, not good mate.
Ive got standard one on my car and its kicking out 230bhp not bad for standard car just lots of T.L.C
Does anyone run a bellmouth inside a large filter before the MAF?
I.E. something like this?
Then simply add a filter with a 6" inlet. jetex do one, rated to 430bhp or something like that.
I'm with Hagga re the heatsoak issue, with the filter sitting right at the front of the bay any temperature increase would be dealt with as soon as you start moving. I'd be more interested in the effect the inlet manifold heat absorption would have on intake temps, seeing as it is on top of the hot engine.
Got a bit of a mix, an Aus Growler with cold induction...sounds great, but H-U-G-E flatspot at 4500 rpm, check out the video.
