    Default Trip computer screwy

Now I'm not too sure if this has occurred since the BSR remap but...

The consumption (instantaneous) has a habit of dropping about 20mpg for no apprent reason. I'm happily tootling along on the motorway at 70 with cruise control on and it'll be reading around the 50mpg mark on average, then it'll suddenly plummet to about 30 for no reason that i can suss out. i don't think it's an engine fault as it sometimes resets itself if i turn the ignition off and then back on again. although this "fix" is working less and less.

it's a minor niggle i know but i do a lot of miles and like to keep close tabs on consumption.

    this sound familiar to anyone??

    cheers

Does your car have a DPF installed? If it's an estate or an auto then it will given the year.

EDIT: Just saw that you do have an estate, so it'll be the DPF kicking in on a longer drive.

ah right. well it does do it on longer drives occasionally but sometimes when i've just set off too. it'd be interesting to know the cycle times or if the filter senses when it needs cleaning. either way it seems to do it very regularly so maybe something is amiss there?

cheers for the info, i've learned something today!

There was something about the DPF cycle being reprogrammed on cars. What I can't recall is from what year the reprogrammed version was standard, and whether it made the cycle more often or less often. One of the 1.9 guys may be able to shed more light.

EDIT: Yep, a search should bring up the info I mentioned as it's been covered in a fair bit of detail on here.
