    Talking Happy bunny!

My signum's coming up for 40k so I thought i'd phone round for prices for a cambelt change.

From my 2 local dealers, one kept me on hold for about 15 minutes while they tried to find a price and then asked why on earth i wanted the water pump changing at the same time!

The second dealer quoted about £500 which was about what i expected.

My local and so far trusted independent quoted just under £300 which again sounded about right.

Then I called Midpoint Garage who managed to give me the best news i've had all week - because my engine is the same 2.8 v6 as the vxr, it's chain driven so won't ever need a belt change!

So that just leaves more money for mods...

You'd have thought the dealers would have told you that wouldn't you?? that would have been a nice 500 quid for nothing then!!!

Penfold - i'd be inclined to believe mpg over a main dealer any day, and the fact the first dealer couldn't find a price makes me certain they're right.

Nah, they'd have phoned him half way through the £500 job and said "We have bad news for you sir, the old belt is in such bad condition the rubber has solidified almost into something that feels like metal. We'll have to charge you £800 now to get this mess out, you really should have got the belt changed before it got into this state".

lol, I'd love to have seen what happened if you had gone with one of the others and dropped it off with them for a cambelt change!

Luckily for them I've got the kids this weekend, I'd be sorely tempted to string them along and waste their time just to serve them right for being useless

lol, I can just picture it! They'd have stripped down your engine, discovered no cambelt, rebuilt it and invoiced you for the privilege!

You'd hope that when they came to order the 'cambelt' before they started the work that they'd have then realised their 'little mistake! lol
