Insurance question?

Im taking the plunge and wanting to put the wife on the car insurance so i can take her out to learn to drive.
I phoned my insurance company to check some things but she didn't really understand what i wanted or give me any info (call centre abroad)... so do i need to add her to the insurance and is it only me that can take out with L plates on my car, obviously she only has a provisional.

you need her insured and if she has L plates and the co-driver if it be you or someone else is over 25 and has a full licence then its fine. so yes you need to add her and no its not only you that can take her out

If your wife is going to drive the car then she HAS to be insured on it m8

As long as she is insured to drive it then anyone can sit with her. (as long as they have a full licence)

Thanks chaps, I tried to explain to the insurance company that she has only just got her provisional and they were asking if she wanted it for social and domestic use, i was saying well she needs it to learn to drive, was getting no where fast. I will phone back tomorrow in the day to check with someone who speaks english

Actually you've got to be over 21 and have held a driving license for three years to supervise a learner driver.

ahh 21 knew it was 20 something!!! wasn't aware about the 3 yr rule.. learn something new each day

21+ And held a FULL UK driving license for 3 years.

L Plates to be displayed on the front and back, and aditionally just so you know, supervisors cannot use mobile telephones whilst supervising a learner, as they too are then liable to a 3 point endorsable offence.

close but no cigar, always worth knowing as it could be an expensive trip when you find out you're not insured and get fined, oh and they'll just seize your car now too!
