My Vauxhall RDS radio is not changing channels when on RDS mode, anyone got any idea of how bad the signal needs to be before it searches or are they just crap radios?

I ahve the same, issue, drove from Thurso to Edingburgh on Sunday and the dammed thing was still try to pick up the local Thurso station.
The RDS function will not work with a weak signal, particularly if it's close to a much stronger one. Also happens if the signal weakens, it drops out and goes into search mode. Sometimes switching RDS off helps, and to be honest, you don't lose much doing so.
I don't use the radio much, so there's more than enough choice of strong stations for me. On long journeys tend to listen to DAB on my Pure Highway....much better. Anyway FM analogue stations are due to be phased out in the near future, aren't they?
Another question along these lines, on my preset one of my radio the station name switches itself off everytime I change channel, it'll say radio1 but if I change channel and go back it goes back to 98.2.
Any body know why this is and how to sort it?

Sounds like signal too weak at that moment for RDS. RDS needs a stronger more stable signal than non-RDS. In my experience it will switch to non-RDS if too weak and to 'search' mode if weaker still. I park under trees in a driveway and it happens all the time, but not when I drive out onto the road.
not a weak signal issue, always does it on the 1st preset on the radio, regardless of the radio channel its tuned too.
