Default Air Box De-Restriction on 1.9 CDTi 150

I got bored this afternoon so I de-restricted the air box on the Vectra,

    A dead easy job.

    Results?

You can here the turbo a little louder which is nice, but on full throttle it does seem to be a little more effortless on the open road.

I am sure this mod with a decent panel filter will be a little better. A no cost mod that takes no time to do.

Simply remove the air box lid, take out the filter and you will see a 'tube' section on the base of the air box.

Simply pull this and it will un clip. In the lid cut the tube flush with the air box outer casing. Job done. The easiest way to do this is to hit the tube with a light hammer to break it then clean up the edge.

    Dead simple.

Well.......yes, a little more punchy on the motorway at about 70-75. Feels more responsive at low revs around town.

Anyone else out there have any similar info with this mod??

Is the 'tube' in the lid of the airbox and about 45mm diameter & 75mm long ? There isn't anything in the base ( not in mine anyway, other than the intake opening !).

done this on my 2.0dti couple of weeks ago, sounds ok, haven't really noticed a huge difference but its an easy mod with no money involved and lets your little engine breath a bit better!!!!!!!! sweet!!!!!!!!!

no, what you have described is the intake trumpet.. that smooths the path of the airflow over the AFM, and is best left in place... if there is no lower duct in the bottom part of the airbox then the mod has already been done
