Boot sensor saying always on?

Hi there,

I have a problem with my Vectra C - the boot sensor on the dash is always lit and it makes a noise when I drive off. I've checked the boot is secure and closed as well as locked and there seems to be no problem. I've closed it many times and problem is still there.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this problem could be?

it could be the lock motor itself.. it senses if the boot is open or not..you could try adjusting the boot catch to see if it helps..

hi mate i dont no if this applies to vectra,s but when i first had my signum i had a similar problem to you turned out to be a 5 pence piece which had gone down below the locking pin .

Have the same problem with mine - I had this before & got the the catch assembly replaced under warranty. But I just got the car back after a truck got too intimate with the rear end & got a new rear sill & hatch & its doing it again!! I've tried adjusting the catch, no difference...At least the dents in the top of the hatch are gone (from SWMBO slamming the hatch to try to "cure" it the first time around!).

I've played a bout with mine and nothing. Still is there. It's annoying isn't it? Goes off everytime you set off from lights etc. I might pop into Vauxhall and ask them how much to fix it. Got the MOT coming up at end of month!!

sounds like it will need a new latch assy then.... if it won't adjust out to work..

Before condemning the lock mechanism.

Try moving the lock arm with a screw driver (or similar) whilst the boot is open and see if the warning icon disappears from the display that the boot is open. Then try pulling the locking arm towards the open position and see if the icon comes back on. Remembering that the lock arm moves 2 positions. This will determine if any amount of adjustment of strikers etc will cure it.

If the light does not go out, then maybe it's the lock arm position switch inside the lock itself. A simple dismantle will confirm if the mechanical switch is being operated inside the mechanism or not. It will be a simple mechanical switch to determine locking arm position, no matter how that signal is processed and displayed.

If it is the switch not being operated correctly (or simply dirty contacts !), then it's quicker and cheaper than fitting a new one, as the unit has to be removed anyway, and if you can't fix it then it hasn't cost you anything.

How much are they?

thing is Ste, he's already tried realigning the boot latch and that hasn't worked.....all you can actually dismantle on the boot latch is the servo housing off the latch.. so unless he breaks open the servo motor he's sunk....

I know they're not cheap, but a new latch servo would be the best way forward..

I've managed to sort out the problem with my boot sensor

I got someone to crawl into the boot and they observed the closing mechanism.. and noticed the two latches were not engaging correctly. Just the one. This was because the bracket was too far down. So I removed the fascia and moved the bracket up, and again got someone to get into the boot and observe the closing mechanism. Both latches engaged and I put the ignition on and voila!!!! No boot sensor icon or noise.

So try that Col.
