    Default £900 Steering Pump!!!

    Hey Gang,

The steering went horribly tight on my '04 sri a the weekend. Got it towed to the local dealer where i've been told it looks like the power steering pump & ecu. The resulting price is going to be £605 plus the vat and install bringing me a total bill of approx £914.

Is this a fair price or questionable from experience.

    Would appreciate any guidance.

sounds about right......the only way you could get it cheaper is to get the parts fitted and supplied by an independant garage and only take it to VX for programming..

go to www.vauxcentre.co.uk and see if they have one then fit it yourself. Resonably easy to do if you can get to it!

There are two places they can be 1.under the drivers side front wing or 2.behind the engine. They do not need to be tech2'd unless your one has a low fuild level indicator as the replacement may not have this and it will have to be Tech2'd out. I paid £200 for a brand new one from a breakers as they found it lying in the boot of a car that had been delivered. Seems the person who had the car was going to try and repair the front end damage theirselves then gave up and sold the car for spares to the breaker.

Ah, that makes its soooo much easier to swallow...chuckle!!!!

Is this pump item something that can go at any time or not, i only purchased the car three weeks ago and i'm pretty sure an item like this is a sealed unit and it either works or it doesn't, i.e. no one would have shafted me in hiding the fact is was on its way out!!!!!!

yes the pump is a sealed unit but i have taken one apart not so long ago

did you get the car from a dealer or a trader as they sould get it done because they have to give 3/6 months warranty with ever car they sell
