Default Exhaust Gas warning light on a diesel?

    Hi guys,

My 2004 2.0 Dti shows the warning light (car with a spanner through it) quite regulalrly sometimes for 10 seconds, sometimes for 10 minutes but always goes out if I resart the car. I have noticed it happens more often when coasting or after accelerating for long periods. Others have posted about Lambda sensor problems which I am guessing I am also suffering from. I still get excellent MPG although am I a little disapointted with lack of pull below 2000rpm. The light comes on for an average of 2 to 3 mins on an hours journey.

Question is will there be much of a problem leaving this like it is and 'ignoring' the light, and what are the implications to cat etc if left unattended to?

    Cheers guys and gals!

    James

Get the fault codes read & work from there!

A couple of common faults on the egr side of things are splits in the vac tube connectors, coked up egr or faulty vac pumps.

it's always best to get it code read before going off chasing other folks theories..it could be anything from a dodgy boost pressure sensor that needs a clean to a dodgy EGR...

    best get it read out..

Mine does this too, you ought to get it booked in just to see what it is - I'm booking mine in when I get time to go out of work to the dealers.

sounds good addyboy. Please post here if you find anything intresting. I don't think that the codes are being stored on my car as the warning light does not illuminate at ignition....any thoughts?
