Default Auto dimming mirror with nite lighting

Hi. Sorry if this has been covered in a previous thread. I have an Elite with the auto dimming mirror with night lighting. However I only found out recently about the nite illumination and how it shines down on the gear lever when it suddenly started working. It only works every now & then. I believe it works on a day/night sensor but it is often not working and only works like once in a month. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I dont have anything hanging from the mirror and it looks in VGC. Do you think it needs replacing? Many thanks.

Try to see if the loom/cable that come's from the mirror has been kinked or damaged in anyway, this could be the cause.......

Cover the sensor on the back of the mirror with insulation tape , as soon as you drive forward teh mirrors should dim and after a min or 2 the night light should come on , if not as previously said , check connections

If you cover the sensor as described, indirect night lighting should come on with the ignition, no delay.
