    Default CDTI Blue smoking

Hi guys, lately every so often my Veccy CDTI (150) will puff out a bit of blue smoke when the turbo winds up, when I say every so often it happened a couple of times in the past six months, but twice this week, normally it clears after half a mile, but today in particular it was hurrendous, billowing out the back, then couple mile down the road it stopped. And has been fine ever since. I get no obvious loss of power, no warning lights etc etc. Is this a sign of a fubared turbo, or nothing to worry about? Thanks peeps

    Hi,
Had this problem with my Veccy CDTi (150). Get some blue smoke on cold start and also smokes under hard acceleration (more noticable at night through rear view mirror when car headlights behind). My car is now in for a new Swirl Valve and Inlet Manifold. Already had an EGR valve replaced under warranty.
If your cars under warranty, get them BOTH checked and dont allow the dealer to replace only on of them as they work together. Swirl Valve and Inlet is costing me £913.

    Hope this helps.

    Col

    What's the oil level like?
How often do you check the oil level?
When was the oil last replaced?

Check the oil, weekly as I can do up to 1500mile in a week, oil was replaced 5k ago, oil is just off the top mark at the moment. Will ask when it goes in to have the tracking done Monday to see if they can investigate it. Car is currently on 105k

I personally wouldn't worry about it, at this stage
Just monitor it weekly, although it coud be a sign that the EGR pipe is on its way out

Blue smoke is oil smoke..and the oil can only come from one of two places.. either piston rings, or the turbo's bearing gland seals..

the EGR/Swirl have no effect on these..nor does how long ago you changed the oil..

If you have had an episode where you have 'billowed out the back' blue oil smoke it needs looking at RIGHT AWAY... something is SEVERLY amiss..

    Utter Utter Trash!!..

How a small bore corrugated stainless pipe can affect if the engine blows oil or not is beyond me..

Not the first time you've posted duff, misleading, or downright DANGEROUS technical 'advice'....

Last warning.. keep it accurate.. if you don't know, don't post, as it's OTHER folks money that YOU are wasting..

How easy is a turbo to replace? Seen plenty of second hand ones?

it's part of the manifold section.. access is tight, but improves if you take the radpack out..

be wary of 2nd hand turbo's.. they aren't fantastic brand new, and you don't know if it's any good at all.. it could well be someone's old expired unit you're buying..

Personally, i'd buy from either an engine you can see run, VX or Turbo technics...
