    Default flat battery

I am asking this question on behalf of my neighbour who i will get to join this forum.
    07 Vectra estate elite.1.9.
Used the car last night no problems.Today the bbattery is totally flat.Only 5 volts.I jumped it to get it started and it will only run with jump leads connected. It appears the alternator is not charging as the most we can achieve is 11 volts. The strange thing is that there are no warning lights on the dash to say there is a fault. All dash lights go out.Should there be a low battery /alternator light.

My battery light came on yesterday when driving home. After restarting the car it went off but came on again after 5 mins later (done this twice and again in the morn). I took the car to my usual garage and they quoted me £606 for a replacement alternator. Does anybody know the extent of the recall from vx?? This seems a bit much to me. Also seems to be a rediculus lead time for the part.

the recall was predominately for 2004 cars..but a quick phonecall to VX will tell you if yours was in the range of the recall...£606 is the full blown price... a pattern unit or recon is far cheaper...
