Yes you can get a refurb but may take a few days. You can get one from your local motor factors and get a mechanic to fit it which would be the quickest option.

I'll take it off tomorrow i'm just worried about the reliability of a recon one? The car sits all week so time's not too much of an issue!!

I had a recon once as a new one was £300+ and they messed it up twice. I broke down in the middle of the road as I was overtaking a bike. It caused traffice chaos, the car was too heavy to push on my own yet no one stopped to help. Luckily my friend has a tow truck so after 20 minutes of abuse I was picked up.

I would buy a new non-oem one just because it's quicker. If you can take it off yourself and don't need the car a refurb might be the way to go. Also one from the salvage yard might be an option.

Have you got a local car spares shop by you I had to replace the alternator on my wifes Vectra B. I paid just shy of £50 for a recon one and fitted it myself.

You have to dismantle half of the engine bay and car to get at the alternator

nearly all alternators are recons, I wouldnt let that bother you.

Some auto-electical places can fix an alternator for you, its usually just something like a diode. Give it a try, could save you a packet.

mmmm thats funny, i stopped in at my local stealers earlier! The guy claimed to have 18 years Vauxhall experience an that he'd never heard of such a Recall. Don't suppose anyone knows of the recall reference number?
