Angry Family Tax Credit - anyone else been robbed?

I am sure there are employees of the Inland Revenue on this site who will flame me (I might even end up accused of libel, but tbh I am so ranty mad I don't give a rats chuff at the moment )............

Has anyone else here had dealings with the magical mysterious system called 'Family Tax Credits'????????????

Briefly, and for the uninitiated, here is how it works..........

They ask you if you expect to earn more than £X in the next year. You don't expect to, so you say NO.

They decide they can give you a small amount of money. You get this over a few monthly instalments.

The next tax year, they say "You earned more than £Y(where £Y is consderably less than the amount they first quoted in the original forms) and will have to pay back the money you gave us"

You then get to call their payment helpline where you can fruitlessly argue your case with a snotty operator (if you're VERY lucky they will say "Please can you stop talking, Mrs D?")

You don't get anywhere, are spoken to like a criminal, and get a lecture about the perils of trying to defraud the tax system. You can try and explain that you filled the form in honestly, but they simply tell you that 'it is done by an automated system, so it doesn't make mistakes...' Hah!!!!!!!!!!

So, here I am, having reluctantly set up a direct debit ("you can spread it over 12 months, if you are finding it difficult to pay" How DARE they patronise me!!!!!!!! Why the hell should I pay back in one amount, something they gave me over 5 months?!?!?!)

They have now had a letter from me asking for no further correspondance AT ALL regarding this c0ck-eyed, thieving, dishonest so called 'family orientated' system

    Bunch of bl00dy crooks.

Yep it got me to, our last repayment is in November.

I couldnt believe it when the letter arrived on the doorstep saying we need to pay it all back.

As you say they talk to you like cr@p as if you purposely tried to defraud them and get money out of them.

The system they have in place is a joke and needs a serious overhaul.

We didnt qualify for the money when they reviewed our P60's due to the overtime money we had earnt from working harder, sometimes you have to question why we all bother.

Don,t mention this Farce to me, Bunch of incompetent fools they are. I had all the fun of being awarded money then they asked for it back. I still swear I am out of pocket due to their misdealings with me.

What I do is, for example if my expected income is 16k for the year then I tell the Tax credits people my income will be 18k. I know then I will not be overpaid. Then when it comes to the end of the tax year and they ask for your actual income I tell them exactly what I've earned for that period. And then they give me a rebate on what they should have paid me. I hope that makes sense.

For the very reasons above, I've not bothered even looking into it, I probably earn too much anyway, plus I can't be bothered to try and deal with some half wit in a call centre when it all goes wrong.

Well since I don't have any children I don't get any family credit. What's more I get the doubtful pleasure of paying more tax so that you shower of moaning whingers can stick both of your hands even deeper into my pockets. Take what the Good Lord Brown has given you and shut up moaning for f***s sake!

Its always the same, once your in the system, having loads of kids, not working etc the system just keeps paying out. For those of us who are trying to work and asking for a little help they shaft us and ask for it back. Makes me sick when i read things like this and I know all the foreign nationals in my town are sending money back to their own country for kids who don't even live here as their wifes are too ****ing lazy to get out and work
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Is this the same as child tax credits or a different kettle of fish?

I know with CTC it's based on what I earn the year previously as far as I know??????????
