    Default Annoying rattle

I have had an annoying rattle coming from the clocks area. I have taken the steering wheel top cover off and the sound has got worse. Anyone else had this cheap plastic rubbing together sound from in the clocks pod? Would taking it out with the battery disconnected affect the alarm?

I know this is probably not the problem, but on a prev car SWMBO kept saying there was a noise & it was her keys banging against the plastic..

I am not silly. I know what you mean sometimes you miss the obvious.

It is more like 2 bits of plastic vibrating against each other. I think it is the plastic face of the clocks that isn't sealed properly.

Lots of plasticy sounds from dash area since new. Slowly I have managed to cure most of them. The ear's can play funny tricks, and quite often the noise you hear is not emaniting from the the area you think it is, for example a really annoying noise which definately sounded like it was coming from the extreme lower right of the dash turned out to be the ashtray/lid. Cold weather is the worst time for plastic squeaks or when aircons on as its obviously not so flexible. I ended up placing thin foam strip behind most of the console panels, car radio area, also noise emaniting from the glove box, caused by mounting screws at bottom not being tight enough can often sound as if they are coming from right hand side.
The chrome effect trim strips along front of dash can also be troublesome.
I've cured most of mine except for one faint one which appears occasionally and sounds as though its in the steering wheel/ ignition key area, but from experience, it could be emanating from anywhere.

Some dealers will look at it under warranty, but unless the noise is present all the time and is a obvious quick fix you may be lucky, but mine went in 3 times for dashboard noises and they failed to fix them, could'nt find anything wrong, guy must have been deaf. The problem is... they can be so very difficult to locate.

You are right they are difficult to find and locate. I am slowly removing panel by panel to see when it stops then I can solve the rattle.

Mine sounds like it may be in the clocks area too, not had the S/wheel covers off however, might lift them off to investigate further, mostly only audible on rough road surface now. My ignition key has always seemed a bit loose but its not that, (still there if held)
The fact that you said it made it worse after lifting those s/wheel covers off, would that not suggest you may be looking in right area.

Its takes a while to track down annoying noises. Some people dont mind them or dont even hear them, but I like silence! in a car. Hope you suss it matey, let me know what it turned out to be if you do.

I hate rattles, and will stop at nothing to solve them. Mine is on certain types of roads so may take a while to solve. I went for a drive and held the clocks at the bottom pushing up and it went away then came back so not sure now.

I will keep you up to date.

    Fixed it.

The clear plastic front was detached from the black part in a corner. A small blob of superglue and all is quiet, I don't know how I missed it the first time I looked at it.
