    Default Good Dealer?

I had my 4th service at Monorep Hayes t'other day.

I asked for a litre of top up oil and when it came back the oil was semi synthetic. This rang alarm bells so I had a look on the service notes and it said Shell Helix, which really got me worried.

I gave them a bell and they said, ooh there must be some mistake, come in and we'll check it out. I did that and they said they can tcheck the current oil, so they will just change it and changed the oil for GM LL stuff. And then to apologise for the discrepancy took the 1L semi synth off me and gave me 5L of the GM long life oil.

Since the oil change over I have noticed the engine is a bit quieter too. Probably a placebo effect from having had the oil changed again.

Its the least they could do, but I was impressed that they didnt try and wriggle out of it or any fuss was made.

Shell Helix is main dealer speak for what's in the big drum in the workshop. You could be getting any old sh**e. I now use a small VX dealer I specifically ask for 5w-30 fully synthetic.

Strangely enough I managed to get hold of the previous owner of my car and The same Monorep (hayes) garage did the last few services on it and he was telling me how good they are and mentioned that he would always ask them for some top oil after a service and would send him off with 5 litres of the stuff!! not many dealers like that around is there?
    Cheers Pete
