Default Rear Brake Binding - 2006 Signum Elite

    Hi Folks,

I've had the Signum 3 months or so and have noticed that the rear brakes seem to be binding. It's particularly noticable when coming to a gentle dead stop rather than using the brakes at 20+ mph. The pads have plenty of meat on them as i first though maybe they were worn right down as that's the sort of noise I'm getting.
Anyone know of any obvious causes of this type of thing?

    Cheers Steve

normally it will either be a sticky piston or sticky caliper slides...

I suggest a strip down and clean up of the rear brakes.. reassembling them with copper grease on the slide pins, pad ears and pad backs..make sure you fully rewind the piston back in with a rewind tool as well. When the brakes are rebuilt, push the pistons out with the footbrake till the pedal is solid, then apply the handbrake ..release all the brakes, and it's a s much as you can do to free them off short of buying new calipers..

HI Thanks for the info. As this car is under 3 years old, should this be covered under warranty, or is it likely to be put down to 'consumable wear and tear' ?

you can try it.....but i wouldn't hold out much hope.. i'm sure they will blame it on 'brake dust build up' or 'rust on the slides' and charge you for it.... I know how they work..
