    Default Plastic Behind Grille

Not sure which section to put this in, so thought I'd give it a try in here.

While cleaning the car yesterday, I noticed on the left hand side (as you look at the car) there is a plastic guard behind the grille. It just screws in behind the grille, and I can't really see what benefit this has.

I've drawn on below where the plastic sits

I've removed this now, and it looks like it should give better air flow into the air intake.

Anyone else removed this, or know if there is a benefit to leaving it in place?

It was there on my 1.9CDTi and i removed it when i fitted the Irmscher grille. I never had a problem after removing it

Popular belief is that it is to stop water getting into the airbox on the diesels but it's not fitted to the petrol engines
