Default Tyre wear problem on 3.0CDTi

    Hi folk
I have problem with my Vectra estate 3.0CDTi wearing tyres out. On the front inside shoulder there appears to be a groove being "carved" out of the rubber. This has eventually caused a tyre failure (luckily at low speeds). Its happening to both LH and RH tyres and on two pairs off tyres scince I have had the car. I contacted Vauxhall who stated they are not aware of any problems with this model. The tyres were Avon ZV3's which I rated highly but as of today its back on Goodyear OEM stock rubber. I'll endeavour to post a photo of the damage. Its ****** irritating as I have to keep a close watch on the tryes for the last 5000miles or so. Still getting 19K miles of of them though.

Were the Avons 91w or Xl rated? I take it you have done the first steps and had the tracking set up etc?

Also did you contact Cooper Avon about the tyres in case there was a fault with them?

As above, Vectra C 3.0 V6 CDTI auto estate : must have XL tyres
Equally, new tyres fitted to the front will probably only last about 15K miles
Once swapping occurs, the rear tyres (now on the front) will last to about 25K miles
Outside edges wearing suggests incorrect tracking, so when the rears are swapped to the front along with new rear tyres, perform a full four wheel tracking
Finally, what tyre pressures are being used?

Hi folks - thanks for the answers.
The Avons were the correct rating according to the tyre fitter. No I have not yet contacted Avon, thats the next bit after battling with Vauxhall for a free suspension alignment check.
As for tyre pressures they are at 39psi but I have been adding a little 40-42 psi in the rears more as I tow a boat/trailer combo of 3/4 tonne.
I really need to get some photos on the forum for you all to see. Will report later

i know exactly what you have, as i've seen it before....

that was cured with better branded XL rated tyres and a front camber alignment session...cheaper softer tyres, like the avon's, just can't cut it on the front of the 3.0 V6..

the person in question now runs GSD3 goodyears with no inner wear..

The bit in bold is the weak link there. I had tyre fitters try to fit 88w's to mine. You need to check them yourself, not trust others to get it right. Only person I trust is myself!
