Default Vectra Radio just trns off and on!

I have a 2004 Vectra CDX with the six stacker Cd Radio. Whilst I'm driving the radio simply shuts down for a second and turns back on. The centre instrument panel also turns off and on. It's very sporadic and does it everytime I drive at no apparent interval or driving pattern.Intermittant so really hard to pinpoint.

    Default help !!!! update

I now think that the problem may be the centre display, as when the radio is turned off manually the centre display seems to turn off intermittantly, thus it is not the radio that's the problem - display goes blank which somehow controls the radio. Today something even weirder happened. The centre display went blank - radio stayed on and aircon wasn't functioning properly - turned off ingnition, pulled the key out and the radio continued to run. I had to disconnect the battery to shut it down. ahhhh...help!!

Is there a control module/CPU as such that controls the screen?

Sounds to me like a loose connection if its cutting out intermittantly while driving.

My headunit used to switch itself on intermittantly and I would come out to the car in the morning to find the stereo playing away to itself and it required a replacment unit to fix.

So was it the head unit that you replaced? I have been quoted by GMH $1750 for a head unit and $950 for the display panel. I believe that it's the display panel, but if there is a module as such that controls the panel then that may be the issue. When I remove the fuse that controls the display panel it simulates the problem. That is power loss for a split second. It's just like turning a light on and off quickly. Loose connection maybe.

Yeah, they replaced the H/U, although mine was the CD30 not a multistacker. I would get it investigated first rather than just replacing something straight away, you never know it might just be a loose plug or something!

Yes have it booked into the local Holden dealer , but I don't like my chances. If I could find out more about how the electrics between headunit and display are connected that would be a start. Does anyone know of a sparky that I could perhaps email/ring that might know how these units work?
