    Default 2.2Direct Versus 2.0T Versus 1.9CDTi

Might go back to my Vectra routes (had a Vectra B sri a few years back).

    Considering a Vectra C probably pre-facelift.

It will almost certainly be an Sri as I like the little styling edges over the less sporty options. The only thing that narks me about the Sri spec is the lack of electric windows in the rear…this seems so far behind other manufacturers of similar spec’d (and even lesser spec’d cars)!?

So it will boil down to engine….(and colour!)

There doesn’t seem to be a massive amount of difference between the 3 engines. Obviously the 2.0T is slightly quicker and the 1.9CDTi is certainly more frugal.

I don’t do loads of miles per annum, say 12,000 so fuel economy isn’t top priority but I’ve noticed that all 3 engines cost a similar amount for a 2004/5 car (initial car purchase cost) so maybe its worth saving some money with the fuel.

I’d probably tune the 1.9CDTi if I got that, I’d leave the 2.0T alone as fuel economy not the best to start with and obviously there is very little you can do with the 2.2direct anyway.

I’m interested in drivabilty and also longevity and hassle free motoring. Owned a Toyota and nothing ever went wrong with it. To be honest, I’d like this from the Vectra. As I said earlier, I’ve ownwed a Vectra B and it wasn’t great with reliability…crankshaft sensor, crack in exhaust manifold, rocker oil seal, alternator, airbag warning faults, ecu light on, IAC needing cleaning out or stalling issues. Despite all this, I actually quite liked the drive of it and considered the initial price of the car to be ok for all the goodies the car had.

I’ve heard about issues with failing dual mass flywheels and fuel injectors and even turbos on the diesels...which all seem to cost the earth (also on the Mondeo as considering them but to a muuuuuch lesser extent). Are these well founded or a minute minority? I’m certainly not wanting to buy the 1.9CDTi over the 2.2Direct if its going to cost a lot in repairs, negating its saving in fuel. Same for the 2.0T if that isn’t as reliable, I’d rather stick with the marginally slower 2.2Direct.

I see in the ‘which is the most reliable engine’ poll on here, the 1.9CDTi beats the other two.

    Any advice and comments appreciated.

    thanks

2.0T is a good choice, but I would say that as I have one.
In 5 years of ownership (3.5 years modified) no major issues at all.
Fuel economy is good for the power return and as with most reflects your driving!

I say go for the 2.0T for tuning and drivability and if you can find a good one.

I have gone from a Vec-B to my current 2.0T C, would not go back to a B (dont quite understand why people do, but each to their own!) I drove all three you mentioned + a 1.8 the 2.0T & 2.2 are rock-solid engines & you can always go down the BSR route with the turbo..

the Diesel has it all - performance & economy, but also a bad rep which tbh put me off, i am surprised the 1.9 does not out-perform the 2.2 in the 0-60 etc, as I was really impressed with it...

I was actually looking for a 2.2 when I came across the turby..I only do around 10K so the fuel does not put me off, pls note the tax is going up, and of course when you come to sell you will probably find a diesel is more saleable. If i had the choice again it would be the Turbo everytime, but i would say that! good hunting!, there's bargains to be had..

The 2.2 isnt really in the same league mate, I would go for the 1.9CDTI loads or power and great MPG

hhmmm they certainly sell more, so more customers reporting being happy & reporting problems, but %-wise i dont believe they are more reliable !

The 2.0T doesn't suffer in the consumption stakes with tuning in my experience. Running stage 3 and can still achieve an average 30mpg

I have had 3 1.9 150's without one problem and beleive they are a fantastic engine, however, if your not worried about the tax and you don't do loads of miles, I would go for the 2.0 Turbo.
