Default Finally bit the bullet and ordered Sky :)

Being installed today. Should be interesting! Had Freeview for a while, whilst it is good, I really really want the Discovery channels. So gone for the Entertainment package and the Learning Package

I keep toying with the idea (getting Sky+), but can't see the point in paying £40 a month for a package that has a whole lot of c**p that I don't want. I have Freeview (which is great) and all I really want on top is the Discovery channels - but can't you get that with TopUp TV if the freeview box has the cardslot?

I'm waiting for a DVD/hard disk recorder with Freeview twin tuners to appear before I switch my box. The ones at the moment are ony single tuner.

I've had Sky for years, and I'm always threatening to ditch it. I don't want to upgrade to Sky+, because I don't want to give any more money to Murdoch.
I recently bought a Pioneer DVD HD recorder, which has it's own EPG (Electonic Program Guide), and an infrared dongle which will control most satellite and cable boxes. With a 160Gb disk, I think it'll do me for a while!

That was exactly my point Duncan but Sky have recently changed their packages.

Half Price Line Rental for 3 Months
2 Packages you choose out of 6

I choose entertainment which has Sky One, UKTV Gold, ABC etc. etc. and the Learning pack which has all extra channels and it is £15 per month.

Using Windows Media Center anyway and this is better than Sky+ IMO.

So for £15 a month I have everything I want. Don't want sports or movies as you still can order the Box Office

I've always been on Sky and last year when I moved house I took advantage of the free Sky+ upgrade and had my normal box moved upstairs for my daughter.

Best thing I ever did, now instead of having to watch Cebeebies for the majority of the day, I can watch owt I like as she has her own stand-alone box upstairs, and the Sky+ is good too, if there's a programme on but I can't watch it cos I'm out, I just select the programme from the listing, press the record button and bob's yer uncle.

Also if I'm halfway through watching something and I have to leave the room, I can just pause it then carry on watching it from where it was paused when I come back.

The down side is the £52 it costs, but thats with the extra box on full package too.

Yeah, the single tuner units are pants. We bought a DVD recorded with Freeview hoping to replace our VCR and floor standing freeview box (no room on telly coz of centre surround sound speaker) but it couldn't do the job.

As if it wasn't bad enough that you could only watch what you're recording, it also locked the unit out to put it into timer mode, or didn't record if left in standby mode. It seems like they made it work like an old-fashioned VCR just for the sake of it, without putting any more thought into what's possible with digital technology.

So, we had to get another freeview box that was small enough to slot in above our surround sound DVD player... Too many boxes!!

my wife put off sky for ages until i beat her down. Got sky+ a few months ago and never looked back. From being able to pause live tv or programmes, record 2 things at once, seriel links, to the suprising amount of channels you do actually watch.

We have the full works and watch loads of channels, basically just flicking to see whats on. Going back to freeview now 9which we have in the bedroom) is like having an arm cut off.
