Default Auto - Manual Conversion Anyone Done One ?

Hi guys , just wondering if anyone has done or heard of an auto to manual conversion .
I am considering this as an option to sort my motor out which I'm having major box problems with.
If anyone has done it - car is a 3.2 03 plate.

1 . How much modification is required apart from the gearstick / linkage etc. ?
2 . Should the manual box be able to go straight onto the original mounts?
3 . How did you go about the clutch pedal ? I can see a bracket mounting where it should be.

Finally any other info would be much appreciated .

I think we have spoke about this before and it would cost you less for a brand new auto box, have you tried taking it to an auto box specialist for repairs?

Ye mate , £1675 + vat for a rebuild . That's a no go for me at the moment .
I thought I could pick up a used box and linkage etc from a breakers ?
    Surely would'nt cost a bomb ?

If your planning on doing it then buy a complete car from a scrappy and swap it all over. I would not that thought it would be easy to do

Ask them about a re-con box and you will exchange your duff one also, see what they quote you then.

Will do mate , been on to a guy in huddersfield and he says if I get the box to him he can give me a no obligation estimate and tell me excactly what the problem is , he says I can even watch him strip it and he will explain all - sounds great to me so far .
It will be next week before the box is out so I will keep you posted . Thanks.

I've just looked at doing a manual conversion, I don't think it would be that difficult to do the biggest job is stripping the old box off.
There is a new pedal box on ebay which is a major part of the conversion.
From a cost point of view the flywheel/clutch assembly is a major cost if your to buy it new. So if you end up doing a conversion I'd look for somewhere that can supply the gearbox with the flywheel/clutch assembly.

If you've got the same gearbox as me I've done some research and the GM AF33 transmission is built under a few different model numbers incuding these AW55-50SN and AW55-51SN. These are fitted to Saab and Volvo to name a few so there are in theory alternative sources for s/h gearboxes. I got an exploded diagram of the gearboxes and the internals are the same as are the casings. In the USA you can get overhaul kits for about £200 and these are the same for all these gearboxes too.
I'm picking up a AW55-51SN tomorrow to try and fit to mine. I'm open minded that I could still have some modifications to do like a swap of the bell housing and the wiring loom into the gearbox.
I'll know more in about weeks time.

Would you not get problems with the Can-Bus. Suerly a trip to VX to get it plugged in would be in order, the autobox must have its own ECU/Modual and to make it redundant deffo put you in limp mode?
