Default 1.9 CDTI (150) Spanner light

I've had my fantastic SRi for about 8 months now and have had the spanner light come on 4 times now. This last happened on Friday night whilst being stuck in a huge tailback northbound on the M6. I restarted the car and the light extinguished for about 5 minutes... then came back on. The I restarted and it was still on. The engine temp was reading 90 degrees due to being stationary for a good while - it normally sits around 80 degrees.

I limped the car to a service station when the traffic eventually cleared and gave it a chance to cool right down. Had a coffee, came back, started her up and no spanner light. This also made me think back to the other spanner occassions and 3 of them have been when sat in traffic or stop start.

If the engine temp is reporting 90 degrees then it's not overheating - but I think it's obviously the heat build up that is causing the problem.

    Any ideas guys?

    Thanks.

At the moment Op-com from flea-bay is looking pretty promising for reading and clearing fault codes. costs about £40 and you install to laptop. Chrisgettings is supposed to be testing it out and will let everybody know the results

This Ebay OpCom is a chineese made copy of the original hungarian device, comes with cracked OpCom software copy.

Having said that - it's quite usefull - can read and clear malfunction codes, can do on-line engine diagnosis (sensor readouts, output tests and so on).

Just got one about a month ago - if you'll be buying this cheaper copy, go for the ones from Hong Kong. You'll pay less then I did for exactly the same device.

This is exactly the guy I got the interface from, he gets the devices delivered from HK to UK and then sells them locally for twice - three times original price.

But I have to admit that postage to Poland was blazing fast, it took only 2 days, so I suppose that if you cant wait to get your hands on one of these babies he's a good choice
