    Default Starter Motor

Been having trouble starting lately - the dreaded clicking problem. Measured 12.25V across battery when engine off, 14.25 when running. Green LED is lit on the battery.

Can someone please tell me where the starter motor is on a 1.8 petrol engine - can't see it from the top of the car. If you could post a picture to show me I'd appreciate it. I can then check the connections to the motor as my next step.

    thanks

Is the battery, earth and SM cable connections secure and not corroded? Maybe worth a removal of each cable and a clean and refit. Obviously you will need the stereo code if you remove any battery cables.

I've taken the battery terminals off, cleaned and copper-greased them before refitting. I want to clean the SM terminals, just need to know where the thing is !!

it's down the back of the engine, underneath the inlet manifold...

what you could have is a dead cell in the battery.. have you done a 'drop test' to see what the battery pulls down to when starting?.. if it gets under 11V then it shows a dead cell and reduced starting performance..

other than that, it's as STE said.. remove and clean all high current connections including the engine earth to body and the body eart to battery connections..

thanks - I'll take a look later. Will I be able to get to it from the top or do I have to lift the car?
