Default 3.0 CDTi V6 Elite Autobox problem

    Hi all
My 6 speed auto gearbox behaves strangely: I mostly drive the car very gently and for the first couple of miles in the morning, the gears change up at 1500 rpm giving a very smooth ride. Then, the car suddenly changes mood and starts to change up at 2000 rpm for the rest of the day. The three litre V6 engine is very happy when changing at 1500 rpm and is obviously more economical when behaving this way.
Anyone else have the same engine with auto? At what rpm does your car change gear? Any tech's who can suggest what is wrong here?
    Best regards

My box changes according to how I'm driving - if I'm just plodding about it changes around 1500-200 rpm, but if I put my foot down it will go right up to around 6000 rpm before it changes up.

Never noticed any difference between cold and warm engine though...

Just got a 2008 sri 3.0cdti model a few weeks ago and the gearbox is awful after having a Vectra 3.0cdti 2005 5speed auto for over 3 years. Apparently its doing what it should be doing but the gears are up and down like I don't know what, so far as to say the car is uncomfortable. Wish I'd never bought it and want my old one back. The mpg is terrible and it won't even go into 6th gear till 68mph.

Thanks very much for your reply.
You say that when plodding around, it changes around 1500 to 2000 rpm. May I ask you to be more accurate? When changing say from 2 to 3,3 to 4 and 4 to 5, is it nearer 1500 or 2000?
    Best regards

I have just purchased an 07 .. 3.0 CDTi Elite AUTO !!! its horrible compared to the 5 speed Auto i sold to buy this pice of C__P, It does 6 less to the Gallon 0-60 a lot slower and at around 30-40 MPH it changes up and down like a Yo-Yo.at 30 mph it seems to be straining its self untill you change up to 4th gear ( or 5th Manually through the Tip laugh a lot tronic) I have been to our local Vauxhall garage and of course they say its lovely and cannot see what i mean and Vauxhall motors state they have never heard of this problem but i can check it into the same local garage i went to before and they will check it out FREE under warranty. What can us loyal vauxhall owners do about these bad automatic 6 Speed gearboxes staying in gear to long before they change up a gear its so unpleasent to drive but i would love to keep it if it could only change up a gear sooner instead of reving around 2500 rpm all the time at low speeds and it makes the car so Jerky when you accelerate HELP !! has anyone got an answer to this problem ??

I would save yourself the time and the money of taking it back to the dealer as it will show that there are no faults and it has the latest software etc. I sent mine back to the dealer many times and they told me there was nothing wrong so I got in touch with Vauxhall direct and all they did was contact the dealer that I had bought the car from. I went to see an auto gearbox specialist and he agreed with me that it didn't seem right but that is how they are and they are a horrible gearbox!
So in the end I managed to put things right myself!!!
Went through a solicitor to take the dealer to court as they sold me it as an identical to my old one. They settled out of court but I took a financial loss and had legal fees.
But who cares, my horrible gearbox has gone !!

    BON VOYAGE !

Try disconnecting the ECU for half-an-hour (disconnect battery) and then drive it really gently. You may then find that the ECU 'learns' to change up earlier.

A lot of these cars spend a lot of time on motorways and A roads where changing up will normally be done higher in the rev range.

Default V6 cdti bad 6 speed auto box

Just got back from the vauxhall garage and as you say they can find nothing wrong with the car, I did happen to meet a budding racing car expert who drove it and agrees it is holding it in 3rd 4th and 5th gears far to long at 30-40 mph the car is doing over 2000rpm in 3rd gear and will not change up to 4th ( unless you do it manually) untill it gets to 45+ mph
He thinks the gearbox is fine but it will be the software in the engine managment system telling the gearbox to stay in gear longer.
So if any whizz kid who designs parts for vauxhall reads this please let me know when you design the right software modification to talk to the gearbox nicely and tell it to change up and down properly. Or of any other person finds a solution i would be most greatfull In the meantime i will drive it around at high revs doing a mere 30 mpg round town.
