Can't see why he's being over the top? Looks like he's trying to do his job to be honest.

Having been involved in that sort of thing b4 - he's trying to impose legislation that is meant for when there is likely to be serious disorder. Not for the likes of a peaceful anti fur demo.

As a serving Sgt, what's wrong with that??

(Other than he read the wrong page )

The anti-vivisection mob can be some of the most intimidating groups around. They've been asked to move to the size and limit the size of the demo. They usually protest against a shop with obscure 'connections' to the animal trade (Thomas Cook travel agents are a regular !!!!!!)

Also, there's the usual nicely scripted 'calm down' from a protester on camera. Deliberately done to make it look like they're the innocent party.

Having had presvous dealings with this Sgt (no disrespect - my current supervisor is outstanding), its done his way or he applies the 'Life On Mars' approach to policing.
Not nice to be on the receiving end if u get what I mean

I can see both points but generally they never know if it's going to be peaceful until it's over? I think it's preempting trouble before it starts, could be wrong as I don't know all of the facts including who is involved and what intelligence they hold. Peaceful demonstration should be allowed of course but it all depends on these factors.

IMO we need alot more of that in this day and age, a couple of thousand Gene Hunts, could probably make the world of difference to this country.

    Some good old fashioned policing.

Having had huge involvement with peace protestors, (anyone who lives anywhere near Helensburgh will know what i mean) then it is often the case that there is only one way to deal with them, as they try to confront you with different aspects of the law, and if you dont know what legislatopn your using, then thecomplaints start pooring in.

Everybody is entitled to free speech, but it also must be done within the aspects of the law. Our sergeants can be like that to, but he did nothing untoward there,he simply quoted the law, and told them what would happen if they didnt conform.

A sergeant should be expected to know it, if the constable doesnt. (in most cases)

    I dont see any issue.

Why do these ppl always pour tomato sauce over their hair before a demo, and why do they have the time to attend these things and still manage to eat, and why won't they listen to what the copper asks of them?

I didn't see anything wrong with his conduct tbh, he asked maybe 4 times and 4 times he got the laugh and ignore treatment, one simple answer to the fur trade, if you don't buy it they won't sell it anymore, I guess what I'm really trying to say is I like a protest march, but it always seems to be by unwashed lazy ppl, i.e excuse not to work cos I'm fully booked on demo's this year gimme my benefit money and do one.

    Nope - me neither.
I have absolutely no time for these mob-handed protesters. Is there some reason why they couldn't mount their 'peaceful' protest with say 3 people and a banner? No - they are out to intimidate and the only language they understand is intimidation and a firm 'in-your-face' policeman is just what's wanted (followed if necessary by a firm 'in-your-face' jury and judge).
