Question The 'BIG BANG MACHINE' !

Taking 14 years to build at the cost of over £4Billion is this a good or bad idea ? Should we mess with such things or leave well alone ?

I think the same was said about the spinning jenny.............

I voted it was a good idea, but only because out trying things we won't learn anything. Same from everything, cooking to modding cars Thing is we will not know what we will learn until we try, can only make guesses at it. So it could be a huge pink elephant

Good idea IMO, could lead to a cure cancer, make radioactive waste safe and all number of other things. If it all goes wrong whats the worst that can happen? The World ends and we are back where we were just before the last big bang!

In all honesty it seems like a lot of money and time has been spent on it, so the experts must think its worth doing.

I think its just like when we used to beleive the world was flat and we would fall of the side. People are scared of the unknown. Doing experiments is what humans have done throughout time and without those experiments and research the world, be it good or bad, would not be like it is today.

I voted good. Nobody can really predict what you will gain from abstract knowledge, but the process of building the thing has been a learning experience in itself -and the new knowledge is already being used, especially in research into fusion reactors.

I am always one for new ideas and knowledge, but tbh the idea of anything which could even 'possibly' end the world kinda scares me!!!!!!!

But there isn't really any danger of it doing anything like that - if there was then they wouldn't have built it in the first place...

Either that, or the last thing said by mankind will be a very quiet "oops..."

If it finds a cure for cancer and does nothing else, then in that respect, it's worth every penny spent.
I feel a little uneasy with the concept of what 'could' happen if things went wrong ! Maybe it's because i don't fully understand what they're trying to achieve or is it that media hype has got me feeling things could go bad BIGTIME if they scientists get it wrong !
