    Default SXI 1.8 or DTi

    Hi All

I'm looking to buy either the 1.8 SXi or 2.0 DTi on a 2003 plate to replace my Mondeo.

Which engine is the more reliable?

One of the reasons of getting rid of getting rid of my TDCi mondeo is because of the high costs when it goes wrong eg. they suffer injector & flywheel problems.

    TIA

Can't really say anything about the DTi as i own a 1.8,great so far, owned it for 14 months and had 1 problem,a leaky oil pressure switch, which i sorted for £5,there is problems with all cars/engine's just depends on which one you buy, fuel costs are obviously a factor too,if i had to choose i'd still choose the 1.8,hth.......

Another vote for the 1.8, I just can't stand the noise of a diesel.

How many miles will you be doing?

for high mileage get the dti(but it's slow) if you don't do megaileage get the 1.8. Mpg ain't top hot with the 1.8 unless driven carefully.

    1.8 Sxi every time...

Got mine (a June '04 car) 2 months ago, and have done 10,000 miles in that time...

I got it converted to LPG at Warrington Autogas for £1275, and so I now pay 49 pence per litre for my fuel

To put that into perspective, you would need a whiesel to do nearly 80 MPG before it cost the same per mile to run...

On top of all thet, have you seen how complicated modern diesels are these days??? You simply couldn't do anything other than basic servicing youself, and that just pushes your costs ever higher.

    No Brainer...

One of the main reasons I went for a Dti is because it is chain driven rather than belt, so saves money on replacing the belt every 40000 miles

I probably do about 200 miles a week all city driving.

It looks like the 1.8 is the one to go for.

    I have a few questions:-

Is there anything apart general stuff that I should look out for when viewing 1.8 SXi's?

What's the deal if it ont has one key. Does an additional key have to be programmed in by a dealer?

Does the SXi have a trip computer. I'm reading conflicting specs of SXI's on the internet.

Thanks for your help so far.
