    Default K&N Filter - I really am a plonker

For a while now I've been banging on about how much difference the K&N filter in my car makes.

I discovered yesterday on checking the filter that it is a standard VX filter. Because every air filter I've seen in the past was just paper (I've led a sheltered past) I mistook the VX one for a performance filter on account of it's honeycombed plastic top and rubberised orange surround.

So I am indeed a plonker.

For what it's worth I'm not really interested in wringing out a bit more performance from an aftermarket filter, as I've got as much as I want. What I would say though is that the airbox mod does make a considerable difference with the standard VX filter fitted.

I am also surprised at how clean the filter is considering it has done at least 10,000 miles and also by the fact there was hardly any dust or debris underneath the filter.

Some reports say that its better to change the OE ones every 5k than fit a K&N. Either way, Rodney................

    No. this one

Easy peasy. Even a plonker can do it.

The one you are referring to refers to the facelift VXR shorter air intake pipe which connects to the airbox. The 2.0T already has a shorter air intake, as has the 3.2 V6. The airbox mod increases the flow of air into the airbox.

Wait until he finds out there is a key lock for turning the engine over, he'll be over the moon that he no longer has to use his cranking handle in the winter

Sorry John but you did ask 4 it.
