    Default Auto-dimming mirror installation..

I'm after fitting my autodimming mirror into my new Astra (dont have the Vec anymore but Mark said I could stick around!), but do not have the loom for it, so i'm told the only option I have is to hard wire it in.

My question is to all the Electrical 'buffs' out there, could I wire it to the interior light (to make it easier)?

    I'm told i'll need:

    A permanent live
    An earth
and a positive (not sure if thats the right term) that works with the lights so the mirror would know only to dim in the dark (could this be done off the map reading light buttons that only light up when the lights are switched on)?

Thanks for any help, much appreciated!

p.s or if anyone is in the know in the Liverpool area and would like to earn some beer tokens let me know

    Thanks

You need a switched live and ground. Once on it measures light from the front of the mirror to that of the back.

    its very simple....

A ground is a connection to the body somewhere, unless you can pick one up elsewhere. And the switched live, is a positive thats switched on only when the ignition is on, and the easy place to get that would be to tap into the cigar lighter socket feed.....

The hardest part would be to find out which wires on the mirror to connect them to....

the ones on the mirror i may be able to find out shortly... and finding a 'switched live' once you turn the lights on may be a little tad harder to find but i'll have a dig around later and see what i can come up with.

I have wired one before on an Audi to the interior light, I am sure the Vectra will be the same.
