Thumbs up Just picked up car - 1st Impressions & Queries

Just picked car up... first impressions really good.. like it lots.

Couple of things not too happy about:

    - constant squeak i heard (sounds like pulley or something) is still there, even after Motorbodies looked at it today. Although it did go after about 5 mins driving

    - the airbag dashlight is now permanently on !!? and it wasn't on Sat before the VX guys looked at the car today....guess i need to get this looked at ASAP

    - Friend followed me home and said he saw a few puffs off smoke under harder acceleration esp 1st and 2nd. Is this fairly normal for a diesel?

Picks up lovely even in standard form. Can't wait to put CR1 on.. although tempted to drive around as is for a couple of weeks so I appreciate it when i put it on and also to see if there are any other niggles before tampering a little!?

Thanks for all the input so far - you've all been very helpful !

    Cheers

I belive that if the drivers seat is moved quite offten then it can cause the air bag light to come on, vx may need to clean the sensor if my memory is correct?

Pleased your happy with your motor Rikki.

Smoke out the exhaust is pretty typical on a diesel, so thats nothing to worry about.

But the other two points need sorting. I'd get on to the stealer and scream and shout if I were in your shoes.

Will keep an eye out for you round town. A silver vec with a man in it, should be easy to spot......

good choice of car mate but im biased

The smoke is normal for a diesel but as said before i would be onto the dealers straight away to get the other faults sorted.

In my experience diesel cars do tend to be pretty brutal when cold, so I wouldn't pay as much attention to a "cold rattle" on a diesel as I would on a petrol. Let us know how you get on dude.

Do you have to give diesels more respect with regards to reaching operating temp before pusing than you do a petrol?

Well there as a thread dicussing this before. It is said that you shouldn't let a diesel engine idle, just get in and go.

When mines cold it doesn't let me go above 4000 RPM for a few minutes anyway, which can be annoying.

You'll be surprised how long it takes to warm up actually mate. If you wait for it to warm up before welly it you'll have reached your destination. I give it a few minutes just to get going, then give it a push to warm it up quicker - if you see what I mean.

See you on the bypass my man.....
