    Default Help browser Hijacked

Our laptop got infected with XP antivrus 2008. After using Lavasoft Ad aware, AVG 7.5 and the microsoft on line security scan we seemed to delete this and several other threats.

BUT my browser is still being hijacked my google searches look ok but when you select from the search results you get redirected to somehere trying to sell debt advice, hotel rooms, health supplies etc.

What do I do next ?

Try running a virus scan in Safe mode - make sure the Virus defintion files are up to date.

Restart the machine and press the F8 key (normally just after you see splash screen )

You could also try disabling the restore point and then running the scan in safe mode, if 1st instance does not work.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

I downloaded and ran Malwarebytes Anti - Malware and it picked up another 58 infected items Registery etc including remnants of xp antivrus 2008 that I thought had gone.

So I am up and running again.

THis software does a far better job of removing Antivirus 2008/9 and its variants than Any other I have tried. Successfully used it on over 25 Machines

Yes, Bullguard picked up some spyware on mine and I was advised to turn monitoring off on all disks in System Restore and restart and delete it. I can only assume that it otherwise would have been loaded every time at start up and you would never get rid of it.

It is infuriating when some antivirus/antispyware software will identify nasties but not be able to delete them permanently or just 'give up the ghost' Bullguard seems to have the all the bases covered, at least so far......

Always disable system restore when Removing Trojans. .. Its where they like to live. One glitch in Windows Loading and they come back
