    Default loss of power-- turbo??

anyone know what the symptoms of a blown turbo are? I just booked a holiday and on my way home after paying that the car lost most of its power and limped home. I checked the boost hoses etc but no sign of splits etc but when i took the hoses off there was a layer of wet oil inside the pipes re started the car and there was a lot of whitish smoke from the back. is this a sign that the turbo is goosed or is it something less/more serious. im waiting for my sons friend to appear with his diagnostic kit to check the codes as the spanner light had come on during this but any advice would be much appreciated

Always a little bit of oil. White smoke is water and normal. Blue smoke would be a goosed turbo normally.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

have you checked both turbo hoses? Even underneath? And as Big Sig said there will always be a little oil in the turbo hose

took hoses off and checked them for splits, nothing showing. just started the car again and it could get a bit part as a smoke machine for THE FOG seriously there is a heck of a lot of smoke coming out the exhaust its dark just now so its difficult to tell wether its all white or maybe more blue. going to phone a friend tomorrow to see if he can take a look at it for me ( he runs a garage about 30 miles from me)

if its just white smoke (deffo smoke and not steam) then its unburnt fuel.. the assuming you have a diesel turbo and not petrol!! .. could be down to a faulty injector... 'hosing' fuel into the cylinder rather than 'spraying' it. this would give you a lack of power too as your engine wont be running properly due to incorrect fueling.. just a suggestion!! :P

Under boost a pin hole will get larger, can you pressure test your hoses n any way, foot pump and water comes to mind.

I've just had mine diagnosed with a blown turbo. It limped to the garage, and had blue smoke from the exhaust. :-(

Still it will be back on the road by friday (hopefully) :-)
