    Vehicle : Insignia

    Trim : SRi Nav

    Engine : CDTI158

    Year : 2012

Default The Insignia diesels need to get closer to this.

This is the latest single turbo BMW 330d (3 litre diesel) :-
    • 152g/km CO2 (less than the Insignia 2.0 CDTI!)
    • nearly 50 mpg combined
    • 242 bhp 383 lbft
    • 0-60 6.1s
Makes the Insignia diesel specs look very outdated, sorry to say.

    Aye, shame that.
Good to see some of these diesels are progressing so quickly at the moment though.

Also the price is not that much more than the Insignia, when depreciation and residual value is factored in, the BMW becomes less to buy.

Unfortunately, whilst Vauxhall continue to offer a mediocre three year warranty to 60,000 Miles, and a price tag when options are factored in becomes a lot of money when just a small extra gets you something like the BMW

In this instance, I have to say, whilst Vauxhall are getting expensive, my money next time will be going to BMW

The performance is definitely there, but there is no way you will get anything like 50mpg out of a 330d in real life, however hard you try to drive like James May.

Indeed. In fact I'm almost certain my next car will be a BMW. It certainly wont be an Insignia for a vast variety of reasons. I feel really disappointed by Vx since the launch of the insignia. I still love my Veccy, but it's sad that this will be my last Vx

Sorry to say that i have to agree with what has been said.

I've recently been looking at different makes/models taking into account price, depreciation, emissions, power, performance, mpg, acceleration, etc. etc......

The BMW as much as i loathe the marque for what it has become is simply streets ahead of any other manufacturer out there

It's not that the Vx is way behind, other makers have similar figures to it.

What did surprise me was the residual values that have already been put on the Insignia. I did some quotes on PCP, HP, private lease etc. and the Insignia is already been quoted as losing over half it's value after 2 years
I compared this against the BMW, Saab, Honda, Volvo, F**D of similar specs/price and the Vx is set to lose more than any of them In fact, some of them were slightly cheaper to start out with but are seen to be going to retain far more residual value than the Vx

Looks like it's just a fact of life that the Vx marque is never going to be seen to be a serious competitor to the others which is a shame as my vec's/signum are (and were) far better equiped and screwed together than my Saab was

That BMW is one quick car, however I do dispute the figures in that article. If the power is up to 242bhp then, as the old one is 231bhp, thats only an increase of 11bhp. Not sure how they have shaved 0.6 sec off the 0-60 with just 11bhp and 14 ft/lb? Would need more like 30bhp.

Nonetheless, still pretty quick with 50mpg and cheap tax. They are just so darn expensive - so are you really saving.....

Edit: just looked at BMW's website and the 286bhp 335d is 0-60 in 6.2 so something doesnt add up somewhere.

Before you wish for a BMW ask a few people about the $tealer service/repair bills and turbo reliability. (Just switched to Vx from a 5-series myself - no contest on ride and handling really and I DO love a rwd but the beemer was just too unreliable!)
