    Default Filters!

Did a bit of research on air filters with some very interesting results!

Are you sure that K&N is really worth it!

    Interesting.

But if you look at how many people use them, and what great results they get, the rule of probability suggests that they do work?

    interesting read though.

Also if you read the replies to the porsche ones, it appears its more specific to porsches... and as much as i love vectras, they certainly aint porsches

I was a little bit worried about the crap (insects, paper, dirt etc) that had managed to lodge itself in the filter (K&N) after only a couple of thousand miles. It certainly wasn't living up to its '50,000 miles before cleaning' claim!

And when you held the filter up to the Sun there were actually holes visible in the top of the element!

As for the 'Porsche problems'-An internal combustion engine is an internal combustion engine,no matter who makes it.

As for the 'horsepower claims'-Temperature makes a huge difference to horsepower (4 degress higher = 1% loss). You won't see anyone with a vested interest in K&N (or any other performance filter) doing a comparison run at the end of an RR session!

That's true to an extent - but yet I still shouldn't, for example, just buy any filter for any make/model of car and as long as it's bigger than the Vec filter, cut it down to size and stick it in a Vec. Why not? wrong filter for that engine etc etc etc.

When you clean these filters you have to re-oil them dont you?

Can you not just brush all the bits out?

    How do you clean them?

IIRC you wash, dry (repeat until clean) and re-oil.
