Default 6 hours to get from London to Bedford ( 40 miles)

My 2.2i direct broke down in London yesterday ( fortunately for me my wife was driving and I was at home ), but apparantly it is still all my fault !!

symptoms were running fine on motorway and through London stop start traffic but then total engine failure, no warning, no stumbling - just stopped. No spanner warning light. Called for the relay man who appeared 1 hour later, engine started fine so he sent my wife on her way for the engine to stop again afer 10 minutes. Ran the relay man again, who came out again, by this time the car had cooled down again, so it started again. You get the drift - she was getting narked. Relay man still refused to load the car and bring her back to Bedford because the car was "working" but did agree to follow her for a few miles. 10 minutes after he turned off the engine stopped again. My daughter was with my wife and I am reliably informed there was a frank exchange of vews expressed over the telephone which resulted in the car + wife + daughter arriving on the back of the trailer 6 hours after the first failure. The car is now at Bedfords VX dealer and we await their conclusions.

I thought you would have had the spanner light for a c/shaft sensor failure..so I dont think its that...
