    Default NCDC 2013 CDC Safe

Just had the in-dash CD changer swapped for one that isnt broken but now get error 'CDC Safe' when trying to play something in the changer. The rest of the radio & satnav works fine and the change has power as I can insert and eject the cartridge - is there some code to fix this or do I have to get sh@fted by the dealer? If so what would they be doing and how much should it cost...

...or is there an independant guy who does such things??

when the headunit (double-din with satnav and in-dash CD changer) was changed under warranty a few years ago I was told these radios dont have codes but they have to be 'coded to the car' somehow. No idea how that was done but didnt care as I wasnt paying for it...

This time round (out of warranty) only the CD changer mechanism has been changed so not sure how one part of the double-din unit can be 'coded to the car' while the CD changer isnt when its part of the same thing!

Everything has to be Tech2'd in so u need to go to your dealer. You will need your cars secruity code.

Everything is treated seperatly, Radio,Changer and Dab unit.

Half-canbus so no Tech 2 involvement on installation. Tech 2 only on full-canbus/facelifts. The unit in question is one that was fitted as standard to pre-facelifts, and has a 4-digit RADIO code.

The message CDC SAFE implies that the unit is faulty or is not being recognised, and you should have been given the RADIO code with the unit.

the dealer have not been helpful so far - they claim to have done a tech2 (its on the bill but they didnt charge me for it as it didnt fix the problem). Car is '53' GSi with the early style Vectra C lights (not the wraparound style).

I have a 'car code' that's something to do with the radio - if that needs to be input how do I do that, there's nothing in the manual

Yes there is in the Audio Manual, not the Owner's manual. You should have got one when you got the car, and the manual covers all audio units fitted as standard, including yours.

No, not true and this has nothing to do with full or half CANBus: the NCDC 201x systems work the same way as the later CDxx units; it does not have a 'radio code,' only a 'car code' which is needed for the pairing via tech2

I have an 03 Elite with the NCDC2013, and had an issue when I first had the car a few years ago. In my case all but the radio were showing "safe". For some reason the unit had lost contact with the ECU and had to be reset via Tech2. Was all done under warranty.

As for the OP's problem - who switched the CDC mechanism over? If it was the dealer then they have not fixed it properly.

Thanks for that. Wasn't aware of that.......I wrongly assumed that the NCDC units were coded in the same way as the CDR and CCR ones should have checked my Audio Manual.....(RTFM !).....I live and learn.

So a 'SAFE' message can imply that the unit has not been paired properly/fully to the car?

Seems that pulseracing needs to go back to the dealer for them to do the business properly.

If the radio and satnav are working does that mean that Tech 2 can 'see' them but not the changer I wonder.

No the Car ECU knows it is there thats why it is saying safe as it is not coded to the car. Tech2 will know its there if it is working correctly and therefore u should be able to enter the car security code to activate it

while those last couple of posts were happening, I was out in the rain checking the audio manual! Under the heading 'Anti-theft protection' it says:

The Infotainment system is factory fitted with an electronic security system for anti-theft protection. A coded unit is useless to the thief. The unit is coded in the factory. If any problems arise, or the display shows "Safe", please contact a Vauxhall Authorised Repairer.
    what they should add is
... who will tell you its broken and that you should buy a new one !!
i guess i need to go back to the dealer and ask them to do it again see if they actually do it this time
