Angry Not what i wanted to hear!

Well i took my car in for its MOT last week, and £152.00 later is was returned to me. The following day i decided to top up the washer fluid, only to find that bonnet wouldnt open, so popped back into the garage, who said they'd be happy to take a look at it. . Then yesterday morning i receive a call from the other half, telling me the car is having trouble starting and keeps blowing out blue smoke, not what i wanted to hear, but asked her to get the garage to check it out. A couple of hours later i get a call telling me the turbo seals are gone, and its leaking oil?

Is this something that can just happen overnight?? Its been perfectly fine up until it went in for its MOT, now its probably just coincience. So now being faced with another bill this time for £626.00!

Not that theres anything i can do, just wanted to know im not being ripped off.

Not done an MOT for some years but on diesels, they used to rev them quite high with the emissions probe up the tailpipe to check the emissions readout.

If they still do them like this then this could be a possibility?

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

Snowman, you got your ears on?

could well of lead to it, they have to hold it at max revs for about 4 secs or so they do this approx 3 times and take the lowest reading.

Unless you drive the car like miss daisy's more careful older sister, you will be on boost anyway, so even going to high idle shouldn't make any difference.

Mark, now i know you must be kidding, i'm absolutely unless when it comes to car mechanics, even if it is just nuts and bolts.

so £600 is a fair price?

Get it repaired, my mate has just had a new bearing in his Omega one, it's basically the same turbo at a cost of about 150 quid iirc, ring Lucas in Portsmouth in the yellow pages under car electrics at Burrfields, you will have to get it taken off and nip it into them for that price though.

Well had the vauxhall dealer do the repair, and got it back yesterday. Only grumble is that it's still smoking, apparently there was some oil in the exhaust system.

will this burn off? or should i go back to the dealer and complain??

the turbo will be about £250-£300 to buy brand new from VX... add about 3 hrs labour and a oilchange service to it......£600 is fair to highish...
