    Default V6 cdti tuning

Hi all, planning to buy a tuning box for my new V6 cdti sri and I am needing some recommendations as to what to buy. I have seen one at carperformancepartsuk.com for £129.99, I have seen another on e-bay from dtuk and they are asking £245.00 or offers. I plan to use the box because you can easily disconnect before the car goes in for servicing. Any advice greatly appreciated.

    yep.. DON'T!!!!!

the facelift euro4 3.0CDTi's are known for having 'weak' fuel pumps and they do object to being boxed..

the problem is many 'tuners' and sellers of these products forget to tell you these little things in the desperate race to sell you a product that not only invalidates your warranty ( and VX DO look for trace evidence of a box being fitted in the historys on your ECU's ) but also comes with no extended warranty on their part and scant aftersales service if it does cause a fault ..

Some folks have run boxes and got away with it... but it's a £3000 gamble...if the pump goes, thats how much it'll cost you..

yep, and they won't tell you that......

the euro4 is more 'fragile' than the euro3 pre facelift... The euro3 was iffy to box, the euro4 is best left running standard unless you have deep pockets..

    ^Yeah, 3.0CDTI Euro4 - best left alone.
Some of the tuning companies have even stopped offering remaps for it, I believe. Serious issues with tuning it appears.

I've had tuning boxes on both my old veccy 1.9 and signum 1.9 and loved them but whatever you do DON'T put one on a 3.0 Euro4. It's not worth the risk m8
My 3.0 has not got one and never will

Doesn't sound good for tuning. Had a dragon performance fitted to my old sri cdti 150 and it worked great with no probs. I think I will leave the tuning box and just fit my K&N panel filter (since this item IS approved by VX). Hopefully I will manage to post pics of my new sri cdti in black sapphire with fitted XP pack. I have just fitted colour coded V grill and also irmscher roof spoiler and irmscher pedals. Planning to fit signum chrome fog surrounds, twin VXR back exhaust style trims and VXR exhaust colour coded insert.

I have had my 3.0 boxed for 18 months now with no problems. I have a dragon box fitted, however mine is a pre-facelift euro 3 as mentioned above.......cant take it off now as the car feels sooo sloooow without it !!

Yep as said, dont box a 3.0 facelift. I've had first hand experience of having the fuel pump replaced . Also one other member had the same problem whilst messing about with tuning and had to have the fuel pump replaced.
Coincidence? I wouldnt take the gamble. It may not last 3 months.

Never had much luck with tuning boxes on my pre-facelift V6.

Also, lots of black smoke isn't good for your EGR valve!

Car is bog standard now, even put back in standard filter today.I feel a change is coming on!

With the K&N filter I was surprised to see a lack of insects in the bottom of the airbox. This was because they had all managed to stick themselves into the creases of the filter element, something that doesn't happen with the standard one!

Suffice to say that having been fitted for only a couple of thousand miles it was now (if it was ever better) inferior to the standard one and this was bourne out with a quick road test.

Have to second what GSi3.2 said.Tuners and particularly the tuning box people, don't do much in the way of testing how reliable an individual car is once they've produced a remap or box for it.As many have found to their cost!
