    Default vectra 2.2 auto problem

i have a 2002 vauxhall vectra 2.2 automatic, ii had the problem with only getting 2nd and 5th gear, but cured that buy changiing the oil. now i loose all my drive when the engine is hot! if i switch the ignition off and back on again it cures the problem for about 1 mile. is there some kind of gear box cooling problem with it?

if it resets when you turn off the ignition, it sounds more like an electronic fault..

i doubt it's a coolant fault.. more likely a sensor breaking down with heat shunt..

what it needs is plugging in to a GOOD diagnostic system.... that will be a great start

take your pick.... they are all over the gearbox....accurate diagnosis is needed first to see exactly what the problem is before just blindly changing parts on the box..

Hi Mate, I've the same car with the same series of faults. The set when it keeps defaulting to limp home mode require 4 attemps and £450 at my very unhelpfull main dealer and over 3 weeks. They ended up changing 2 main sensors on the box. After each attempt they rang me and told me it was fixed.

Its now lost drive until its turned off and restarted, it then drives ok until i stop, then no drive again until i turn it off and restart.

Have you sorted yours now? If so what was the problem?

The new main dealer has` just told me its a new box and £3.5K!!! That just aint gona happen on a £3K car is it

    And help greatly appriciated.

well I do have exactly the same problem and all I can get from the "experts" is that the auto transmission speed sensor needs to be replaced :-(. Anyone that did this and worked out????? Mine is a 2003 model vectra 2.2 sold under Chevrolet in latin america.

Did the old one have crud all over the end when you changed it? If so its probably a tempory fix as the crud is the metal from the friction plates and it sticks to the speed pickup sensors and provides false error codes.
