    confused 1.9 Cdti Engine Re-map

I am new to the whole diesel engine way of doing but thought i would give it a go, i bought a 2007 Vectra 1.9 Cdti 150 Sri which is no slouch but i would like a bit more so am considering an engine remap.

How well do these engines take to the remap ? Does the reliability get affected too much ?

How detectable is it for warranty purposes ?

Also i know diesels smoke a little but mines smokes blue/black when i first fire it up and when following behind it there are small puffs following a gear change - is this normal ? And would it be made worse following a remap ?

Lastly does anyone know the main faults on this particular model so i know what to look out for and get them rectified as soon as possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get either a cheapo T-tuning "caterman special" tuning box for around £65 or go the whole hog and get the BSR remap from LMF. (£550)

Both can be removed before you take the car to the dealers and both give around 190bhp.

The engine tunes well but as for reliability, it is a fragile engine if you get a bad one. I've had 2 1.9's and had 3 different tuning boxes on them. I had the fuel pump replaced under warranty but doubt it was anything to do with the box as it is one of the things that does break on them

The DMF is a fragile part, along with the swirl valve, EGR valve, injector wiring etc. etc. when they go wrong, they go wrong.......a lot

as tony has said £65 is a no brainer in my book its a dam good place to start and you may find you never change from the box

It's not the warranty you need to be concerned about, it's the insurance if you don't declare it (as if ) and get stuck somewhere that you can't get the mod off before they collect it. Insurance companies are well geared up to look for undeclared mods.

By the way - what are people's experiences of declaring a remap to the insurance company?

Well I declared my BSR Remap & KN panel filter and at my insurance renewal (albeit with a different insurer) it was only £50 more than my (at then) present insurers were wanting for an unmodfied car. The insurance cover was like for like, same xcess etc. So it does not have to cost a fortune if you shop around

    Sorry for the
Sure, £594 with the Tuning Box, K&N Panel Filter, and Irmscher door pins declared. That's also with a £450 excess.

It was £520 before adding the Tuning Box, with everything else on there (the other bits didn't load the policy)
