Default How high should my dipped headlight beams be?

    Hi all,

Had a bit of a problem with my Xenon lights on my GSI. THe auto levelling wasn't working. Managed to get this sorted and all seemed OK. Driving home from backshift last night (first time been out night driving since) and i was getting flashed by other drivers as if my full beams were on. They beams did look a bit high.

I checked the height of my wife's cars beams against a wall this morning and mine don;t look much different.

Is there a specific height i can check for these? Is there any manual adjustment at the headlights at all?

    Cheers

    Roddy

Not sure but you could pop down to a garage and ask them to check it for you

You can manually adjust the height of the beams. At the top of each headlight there is a allan type screw. I think one is for height (up & down) and the other is for sideways (left & right). One of my auto adjusters has failed and thats how I altered mine. When dusk arrives park against a wall or something similar and try to adjust to a reasonable level. Hope this helps.

Didn't want to take it to a garage because i usually find i get better answers on here first.

Very true But I was only suggesting to get the alignment checked. Who repaired the auto levellers? Did you do it yourself? If a garage did it they should have checked the alignment for you really imo.

Actually i had car in dealers for a diagnostic and they said either the rear sensor was goosed (£155 fitted) but that that might not work in which case i'd need to put standard springs back on (£250) fitted. I've had eibach springs put on and lowered the car slightly.

When i looked at sensor myself i noticed the bracket holding it to frame was bent. Bent it back and hey presto the warning light disappeared.

I've manually adjusted the lights a bit lower and i'll see if i blind anyone tonight!!

    Thanks for replies
