Default Servo pack / Heater / Relay - How annoying!

    All,

    How are we?

I hope you can help with this annoying but prob simple issue.

Following a long drive in heavy rain (Rain in August - who would beleive it...) i have annoying problem.

I get clicking - relay noises when floating over to a/c or recirc. Initally I thought it was gearing problem on the aircon fan as that's when it started but now... it seems the car is doing it a lot even when not driven, get that! especially when opening the car if standing for more than 15mins - and seems to do it every 15mins or so if the car is just standing?

    I can't explain this

The car is the Elite (05) so has dual climate control - not that that seems to make a difference - warm or cold air seem to come out and fan runs fine 1 - 7. Can't pin down what this could be.

Checked the rain wells/drains around the pollen filter and all seemed fine, no wet floor.

Anyone had this before - would the car know if the recirc/outside flap was incorrectly aligned - does it do these kind of checks when firing opertaing the key fob? I can't explain it.

Really need so advice - as far as I can tell - once the car is running the clicking does not happen unless I engage the a/c (sometimes) or when I swtich from recirc to outside and visa versa.....?

    Is it ghosts? or Gremlins?

That's exactly the same problem mine has (and a few others), it's the recirculation servo for sure. I'd managed to ignore mine for a while but it drove us crackers while camping the other week. I ended up setting it to fresh air then disconnecting the noisy thing.

It's the topmost servo of the three, the most difficult to reach and means the fascia trim has to come off then removal of the glove box. A new servo is around £60, so I've been told.

Well at least I am not alone in my annoyance.

The clicking is happening every 3 1/2 mins when the car is locked up!. Auto recirc is turned off (air quality) so why would this thing servo be trying to work while stationary - it seems to work when driving - as in recirc - but when manually turning recirc on and off it also clicks - but different clicking...

Might have to disconnect short term as I do not want the battery going flat or burning out etc....

    Is it dangerous?

    Default Right.

I have found the clicking noise.

After removing the glovebox and looking up behind it it seems the recirc motor is attached the main fan... is this correct?

Following unplugging the said motor the clicking noise has gone all the time.

    See pics

Is this the recirc motor and as it looks hard to replace is it straight forward?

Oh.... and.... is the motor cover now in the none recirc postion - I think it is?

Those are fairly cheap to buy, not sure how easy they are to replace, more fiddly than anything I would imagine. Looks like the recirc servo motor to me

Yes, that's the servo that's the problem and yes, from the looks of it, the flap is in the closed/recirc position.

I'm not even sure if (for me) it's worth the hassle/expense to replace; I've never needed to use the recirculation button/switch on any of my previous cars and have never used it on this one.

The only time I may need to reconnect it (as mine is left in the fresh air position) is if I ever need to use an aircon bug bomb thing.

When you put the temp to "lo" it closes that flap. I know what your saying but it would bug me knowing it didn't work!

If the air con is on and you have the heater blower full speed, it automatically goes into recirc mode, ie. the flap closes. I checked this when I was chaniging the pollen filter and sure enough thats how it works so even if you never use the recirc switch, if you are in the mode described above, it will close the flap.
