    Default 2.2 starting problem

    hi, i've got a 2.2 petrol 05 reg vectra which until now has never failed to start .yesterday we did 300 miles without any problems,i came to start it this morning,it fired up first time for about 2 seconds then cut out and would not restart.there is about half a tank of petrol and it turns over no problem,any ideas will be most appreciated,thanks matt.

    maybe the fuel pump gone awol

    Which one you recon? Good news if it is high pressure one, it's not that expencieve as for a diesel...

    I'd have started form checking the battery, listening if there are any sounds coming from the back of the car (tank pump should be hearable). Maybe it's something pretty simple such as cloged fuel filter...

    Is the car/spanner light flashing?

    Immobiliser related fault if so.

    You have a high pressure pump also up at the engine end, thats the expensive one. There have been a couple of directs on here with that failing.

    hi again,yes its a direct,i can hear the pump prime when i turn it on,there are no flashing lights on the dash,think i'll go for the filter before i take it in,typical as the warranty has just ran out.

    hi again,turned out to be the cam chain had slipped on start up,luckily it didnt do any damage to the valves etc,now i've got to try and get money from vauxhall for the the parts.i've been doing a bit of digging about and it looks like this is a fairly common problem so i wont be buying another 2.2.
