    Default Recommendation for rear speakers?

I finally ditched my CDR2005 head unit for a Sony, wow what a difference to the sound quality! I'd recommend it to anyone unhappy with the sound or dismal AM reception of their standard fit unit.

What it has highlighted however is the difference in quality between the sound from the front and rear speakers, the fronts are great, the rears are dull and lacking high frequencies. As this is an LS model I'm assuming the rears are just full range speakers without tweeters. So I'm planning to replace them with 2-way co-axial speakers, problem is I'm on a budget so I'm looking for a pair for less than 40 quid. Anyone got any recommendations?

    TIA

Vehicle : Insignia CDTi SRi NAV 160

    Trim : SRi

    Engine : A20DTH

    Year : 2009

    Mileage : 88000

The speakers are the same front and back in the LS/SRi (and others)so I am bit confused how they can sound different. Front and back are 16.5 cm and both have the same part number. VX do a different front speaker to go with the CDC40 which is 2ohm instead of 4ohm. I know Danboy fitted some pioneers which were produced esp for the Vectra C. I have not heard them yet to tell the difference but might be worth a PM to get his feedback. You can always add the VX tweeters in the back as well.

Hmmm that's surprising, the sound from the back is quite dull, almost muffled. The front is great, I can't believe I'm getting this quality from a full range speaker because from what you're saying it doesn't sound like there are any front tweeters in an LS spec? I thought about VX tweeters for the rear but assumed they would cost more than a set of new coaxial speakers, plus not sure if they'd also need a crossover?

The VX tweeters are cheap so its a good mod. Check to see if you have the front ones. They are behind the mesh grill where the electric window buttons are. Do u have a center speaker in the dash? Lift up the plastic grill in the dash to see. These are about £13 at VX depending on if u need a 4 input or 2 input speaker.

The fronts in mine are components and sound quality is good. When I first got my car I noticed that the rear speakers looked the same but the sound in the back was sh$£e. On closer inspection there were no tweeters in the back although the mesh grilles were there. I went to the dealers and they were clueless so on looking round other models they were all the same. No tweeters in rear. I though that was total penny pinching on VX's behalf considering it was sri spec. I presume therefore that the rear door speaker is really cheap co-ax jobby and I'm going to replace with decent two way speaker. I can't be bothered fitting tweeters and crossovers.........did all that about 17 years ago!!!! It has to sound better than the factory speakers and don't think they will be too much...well I'm hoping

No idea mate TBH. Contemplating upgrading these speakers but not looked at it too seriously yet. I've got a little micra I use for work that has manky orange holes in the bottom of the doors and I should really sort that first before the s$£t weather starts. I'm sure someone on here will spill the beans about size as they are a knowledgeable bunch . Keeping an eye on this thread
